HOW is it May?

Since February I have:

Developed a new range of organic wares for little people called inklet. We have just come back from an awesome four-night trip to Adelaide for Bowerbird Bazaar where we launched 3 of the products. We also took a road trip through the Barossa and visited Maggie Beer's Farm Store and marvelled at the cute towns and shops and wineries.

Set up a new business for my wedding hair and makeup team called LadyDay. This involved building a new website with all new branding, tracking down a bunch of images from brides and photographers, shooting new stuff, printing business cards, postcards, poster-size images and holding a 2 day stall at a wedding boutique market called Portobello Bride. It was all worth it, this business building business pays off sometimes. Just not with money. Not yet!

Witnessed my children grow before my eyes - Mahlie started kinder this year and is 4 going on 14. Leon, who just turned 3 in March - being the late talker - has suddenly become a little chatterbox and is overwhelming me with how much he knows and thinks and observes.

It's how we get the shopping done..

I cannot believe it's May already and next month I will be another year older. In a few weeks I will have been a single mum for one year and time has just flown. Keeping busy with work has been a blessing and although I long for things to settle down, I know I have a stupidly busy year ahead and I am grateful to not have too much time on my hands. Methinks a big chunk of holiday time all at once this time next year would be best. Three or four self-indulgent weeks in New York I'm planning on.

Oh, and next week is moving day again. I'm heading back to the village. Back to my cluttery lovely stuff and interiors and my yard and my big kitchen and insanely large television (haven't watched T.V for 18 months!) and choice of dining out and coffee shops. Yessss and cheaper rent and shared bills and others cooking and a bit of free babysitting. That's what I'm talking about. Goodbye Footscray. It's been fun. Not. Really. Maybe a bit novel? Meh.

Snap! I moved into the Ink and Spindle studios right when they began printing on organic cotton jersey and began printing kid-friendly designs... inevitably we collaborated and came up with a whole new label: 

So far we have t-shirts in size 0, 2 and 4. There are also blankets and bibs and much more to come. Watch this space as more colourways and products will be relased and inklet will be available to purchase online, at the markets and selected retailers. 

The whole range is 100% certified organic, printed and manufactured in Australia (even the jersey!)... and sweatshop free.

Open Studio and Garage Sale

I know - I have been seriously absent from this here neglected blog. I have been doing makeups. I have been spending more time with the kidlets since all their other activities stopped for the school holidays and we have been on some road trips. I have seen loads of live music, including The National, Grinderman and Laneway Festival. The biggest event, though, was moving my Twiglet studio in with Ink and Spindle. I'm so chuffed to have some girly company, some windows and also excited about some collaborations that are in the pipeworks which will follow and develop from the girls' new range. The new prints will be available this Saturday at the Open Studio and I will be selling LOADS of vintage fabric at baragin prices, vintage haberdashery, second hand clothing and who knows what else I will dig out whilst unpacking? All Twiglet stock will also be available and be marked at special sale prices.

Awesome {KID}independant - an indie site for mums, kids and babies recently featured Twiglet Eartha dresses on their "Fresh Baked Fridays - We love you mother earth" post.

Yes, it is true. I have actually added stock to my Etsy store. These new dresses are part of the beginning of Twiglet's Eartha range. The adorable images above are by my very talented friend Scout Kozakiewicz.

September so far...

Mahlie turned 4!

and had, as she calls it, a "purple fairy garden tea party" at which pass the parcel and musical chairs was played to the sounds of her new favourite band, Supergrass.

Our playgroup had a Spring Fair, which I couldn't be at because I had Maribyrnong Makers Market and a big makeup job - so my contribution was to make up DIY felt steiner toy kits to sell at the craft stall. There are a few left so if anyone wants to make their own toadstool, chicken set or dolphin - let me know and I will send one out! These, along with the made-up finished toys are a great fundraiser for our local non-funded playgroup.

 

Today at Jimmy Buttons sourcing trims and bothering the staff with my two lovely monsters who were pulling on rolls of ribbon and dropping sultanas on the floor...

The big question this month is "Will I meet my unrealistic deadline of the first week of October to get all my new products made up and desired stock levels produced for Twiglet?" (which I will be taking Finders Keepers and also represented by Ink & Spindle at Bowerbird on the same weekend). It's going to mean focus, dedication, working late, no post break-up-trash-baggery and no procrastination.. good luck to moi!
